Summer is peaceful walks on the beach, the hot sunning beating down
on you, the relish of a cool breeze.

Summer is sand between your toes, your skin smelling of sunscreen, and
freckled faces.

Summer is sweet buttery corn on the cob, deliciously juicy fruit, cold
drinks on the patio.

Summer is bright colours, billowy skirts, and beachy waves.

Summer is here and all I want to do is wear ensembles that are
reminiscent of the best time of year. I thought that this (years old)
striped tank top matched the beach perfectly - I'm just like the sand
and the waves now! Throw on a shell pendant and a beachy-themed
bracelet and I'm all good. Contrary to what might now be popular
belief, I don't actually live at the beach...only wishing I did...

Nova Scotia is notorious for it's fickle weather and it's rain, so when the
weather's even remotely warm and sunny Paul, Kobe, and I can be found
at the beach. Apparently this is usually a foggy month, but we've been
gifted with such beautiful weather! Over the weekend we took advantage
of the warm weather and took a drive to Main-a-Dieu, the most easterly
community in NS. It's a small fishing village with a population just a little
over 200, but does it ever have a lovely sandy beach! Sometimes I like
to look out at the ocean, feel the wind, and imagine it's the early
1900's and I'm Anne Shirley. And Kobe has to be one of the luckiest
and happiest dogs. How he ever survived in the city before all this, I'm not
sure! He's having the time of his life jumping in the waves, running wildly
free down the beach, and exploring new territory. It's all in the simple things!

It's the weekend, and boy, am I ever thankful! Life has been go, go, go
lately and I feel as if I haven't had a chance to catch a breath. I just want
to sit back, relax, and enjoy all this spectacular nature that surrounds me!
Paul and I have created a to-do list for the summer of all the places we
want to visit on Cape Breton Island. I suppose we're Capers now and
need to know our territory.  It's nice to finally have a car and be able to
go places further than what a city bus allowed too! There are a ridiculous
amount of beaches, lighthouses, hiking trails, and neat museums for us to
explore and I'm so ready! Looks like this is going to be a great summer!

And yes, I may be going overboard with the whole nautical theme. This
is years' worth of holding myself back from anything remotely nautical!
When in Rome, no?

Life's a Beach

I apologize for the picture heaviness of this post, but I couldn't help myself,
everything was just so breathtakingly beautiful! These pictures are actually
from several days ago, but alas, this seaside village is keeping me much busier
than the city ever has. This beach will be much frequented by Paul, Kobe, and
I this summer - that's for sure.  The gate allowing people to go doesn't open
for at least a few more weeks, so we had to go by bike this time. It was a long
ride, about an hour or so, but so worth it. And we had the entire place to our-
selves - imagine that! It's incredibly humbling to listen to the waves and look out at
that gigantic body of water. It definitely puts you in your place in the world. You
can't help but feel small and somewhat insignificant standing next to the ocean.

Tracks to Nowhere

I think I just may be in love with my new town! When you're going for
a boho-western look could there be a better backdrop than the railroad
tracks?! Paul and I have been quite busy lately, hence my serious lack of
posting. This type of busy is a good busy though. We're exploring our new
home and beginning a new life (which can be very time consuming!) And
it's wonderful to be surrounded by family - it's been so long since I have.
One of my favourite things in the world is to sit and talk with my Nan. We
have a lot in common and I love listening to her stories. She has traveled
everywhere and has lived in Saudi Arabia and Iraq - which also means
her house is full of the neatest finds! Gotta love your G-ma!

Down at the Boardwalk

It's now day ten of living in the quaint seaside village. Finally the majority
of boxes are unpacked, the embarrassing amount of dirty laundry that we
brought with us is all done, and now it's time to enjoy our new home! I've
been coming to this little town almost every summer (at my Nan's house)
since I was 12, so I know this place pretty well.  Paul's only been here
once though so I get to experience this town through a newcomer's eyes
all over again. Over the weekend we took Kobe down by the boardwalk.
I'm still not used to the temperature change. It was plus 30 when I left
Ottawa and it's about 15 degrees cooler here (understandably so, I live
next to the Atlantic Ocean). I've been putting my wool garments at the
front of my closet - that and everything nautical!

Backyard Shenanigans

Ladies, meet my backyard! Well...it's not actually my backyard, but it's
my playground. Oh, how nice it is to look out at the ocean and smell the
fresh, clean air. Paul and I have been extremely busy unpacking and getting
our lives back on track that we haven't really been out exploring. There's so
much to see and do here, but a trip to the lighthouse was a necessary first!
Kobe had his very first swim in the ocean and it was adorably funny to see
him jump back in fright from the big waves. And since I now live by the
ocean and a lighthouse I'm definitely going to be rocking the nautical look.
Over and over again.  It'll be a great marker of my creative ability - for
I'm going to have to bring something new to the table each time. All righty,
off I go.  So much to do, so little time. Until we meet again!
