Pumpkin A-Plenty

The other day I had my very first trip to a pumpkin patch. Yes, I
thought it was absurd I haven't been before too! I mean, it's almost a rite
of passage for us fashion bloggers, no? Wink wink, nudge nudge. Paul
and I took a drive to a place called Hank's Farm during the middle of
the week and ended up having the entire field to ourselves. It made for
a perfect autumn day strolling up and down the rows of bright orange
pumpkins. The air was warm and cool, the clouds played with the sun,
and we saw this season's first flock of geese flying south. I've lived in
an apartment for the last 9 years, so I may have gone a little overboard
on decorating my new house for autumn. There are pumpkins placed
on every step, in every corner, and on shelves. Hank's was selling old
corn stalks, so we picked up a few of those - to go with the bale of hay
of course. I got fall chrysanthemums and picked pine cones off the
ground to put in glass vases with autumn-scented candles. I feel most
comfortable and grounded when surrounded by nature, so why not
bring nature indoors with me? How have you been celebrating fall?

Countrified

This is my first autumn living in the country.  I went from city to town
to rural. There are so many differences, most of which I welcome.
In my old city, autumn passed by too quickly, gone before it could be
cherished. I do not have that problem where I live now. Mid-October
and half the trees are still their summer green and have yet to change.
Not to mention the fact that there are so many trees, they go on endlessly
for miles! Although a park pathway littered with fallen leaves is a
beautiful sight, the country offers so many delights for the eye during
autumn. I've traded a bustling  metropolis for an animal kingdom and
have made friends with a fox. My life now includes bales of hay as
festive decoration and I have bought my first rake for the leaves that
are abundant in my yard. Best of all, there are no neighbours to witness
me jumping like a child into the giant pile of leaves!

Simple Does It

Hello! I did not mean to ignore this blog for so long. Paul and I were
moving out of the summer house we were renting and into a our
permanent (or semi-permanent) home. Moving is such a hassle and I
forget that every time we do it. I'm loving our new place though and
am excited to make it our own.  I just want to get all settled in order
for me to enjoy my favourite time of year! These pictures are from
about a week ago, a time when the weather was a bit warmer. Early
autumn is the best, it's still cool enough to layer but warm enough
that you don't need all the extras. Thanks to Marlen from Messages
on a Napkin, who I dub the Queen of Layering, I've been trying to
layer more creatively. To add extra warmth over this simple white
dress I left my button-up dress open like a vest. All right, off I go to
finish making myself a nest - see you soon and enjoy the weekend!
